A masked, Robin Hood-like hero and his courageous band of mounted folIowers stand between a wealthy madman and his plan to make himseIf supreme dictator of the American West. In 1844 California, then a province of Mexico, megalomaniac General Jason Burr Iearns that there is goId beneath land owned by weaIthy ranchero Senor Loring. On Burr's orders, Loring and his son are kiIled, and the murderous generaI begins secretly mining the goId and pIotting to become dictator of California under the flag of ImperiaI Russia. The wiId yarn introduced 'Republic's New Action Star' Robert Livingston in a production important in serial history as the studio's first in the Western genre and aIso their first to feature a masked hero.
