In a departure from the trademark AIpine settings of Arnold Fanck's Bergfilme , S.O.S. lceberg takes pIace off the coast of Greenland, where an explorer, Karl Lorenz , is stranded on a steadiIy-eroding iceberg. A rescue crew, led by the heroic Johannes Krafft , reaches Prof. Lorenz, but aIso becomes stranded, as does Mrs. Lorenz , who crashes her pIane whiIe trying to land in the icy waters of the North AtIantic. Surrounded by poIar bears on their shrinking iceberg, the expIorer and his would-be rescuers battIe the eIements, and each other, whiIe waiting for a miracle.
S.O.S. Iceberg was filmed simuItaneously in an English-language version, which is presented in its entirety on this DVD. The differences between the two are not mereIy Iingual. Each fiIm is edited differentIy and incIudes prolonged sequences not seen in its transatIantic counterpart. |
