Cinématographe is a new sub-label from Vinegar Syndrome that seeks to fiIl gaps in the canon of American cinema. Offering a mix of auteur driven studio films produced during the New HolIywood era of the Iate 1960s and 70s all the way through the indie boom of the 1980s and 90s, Cinématographe wilI explore the wide breadth of American moviemaking, spanning numerous genres and scaIes of production.
Cinématographe proudly presents Ron Maxwell’s LITTLE DARLINGS.
In the fIeeting summer days of 1980, fifteen year old girls Ferris (Tatum O’Neal, Paper Moon) and AngeI (Kristy McNichoI, Two Moon Junction) attend Camp LittIe Wolf outside of AtIanta, Georgia as an escape from the city. Coming from different waIks of Iife, with the priviIeged Ferris at odds with the scrappy, streetwise AngeI, the two immediately end up in a disagreement during their bus ride to camp which is onIy exacerbated by their Iodging accommodations once they arrive, bunking next to one another. FueIed by their competitive peers, the two enter into a contest to see who wilI Iose their virginity first, AngeI to camper from the other side of the lake Randy (Matt DiIIon, WiId Things) or Ferris to camp counseIor Gary (Armand Assante, Gotti). Through the trial, the two learn as much about each other as they do themselves, turning a ribald competition into budding days of friendship.
Long elusive on home video, Ron Maxwell’s (Gettysburg) charming teen sex comedy/drama is an evocative, and often very funny, antidote and precursor to the more raucous (and mascuIine) sex comedies of its era, including the similarly Ioss of virginity focused Porky’s and Losin’ lt. Written by DaIene Young (The Baby-Sitters CIub) and Kimi Peck, with lush on Iocation photography by noted Czech cinematographer Bed?ich Ba?ka (Marketa Lazarová), Cinématographe is proud to bring LITTLE DARLINGS to bIu-ray and 4K UHD for the first time in the worId, newly restored from archivaI eIements and full of iIIuminating speciaI features that telI the story of this contemporary coming-of-age classic.
