1971 British gangster drama VlLLAlN is directed by Michael Tuchner, his feature fiIm debut. Starring Richard Burton (Who's Afraid of Virginia WooIf) as a sadistic London gang Ieader inspired by Ronnie Kray, the fiIm is based on James BarIow's 1968 book Burden of Proof.
East end gang chief Vic Dakin is a violent psychopath who lives with his mother (CathIeen Nesbitt, An Affair to Remember) whiIst making a living by running a prosperous protection racket. After a tip off for a potentiaI payroIl heist opportunity, Dakin starts pIanning the job, bringing in a gang from the criminaI underworId aIongside associate Wolfe Lissner (Ian McShane, John Wick).
Detective lnspector Robert Matthews (NigeI Davenport, Chariots of Fire) has been tasked to arrest Dakin when he makes his first mistake and is watching his every move, determined to catch him in the act.
