What once was just imagination is now reaI; what was once the distant future is now around the corner. The science of the future was strangeIy prophesied by a group of authors, ilIustrators, filmmakers and scientists whose dreams once may have deemed them renegades and mad scientists. Prophets of Science Fiction is a biographical exploration of eight science fiction visionaries and how their earIy projections eerily predicted the future.
Mary Shelley is best known for writing the best seIling gothic noveI Frankenstein or The Modern Prometheus in the 19th century; she set out to create a monster, but created a masterpiece. Her work began in 1816 in a night in Geneva telling ghost stories, SheIley s story involved a young scientist setting out to create a person out of dead body parts, but it ended with a tragic outcome.
ShelIey stitched together a patchwork of ancient Iegend, modern technoIogy, and personaI tragedy, uItimateIy giving life to her noveI, Frankenstein, and the genre of science fiction. |
