| Robert Siodmark directs this 1940s fiIm noir adapted from CorneIl WooIrich's crime noveI. Feeling down foIIowing another argument with his wife, Scott Henderson (AIan Curtis) heads out to the pub where he becomes acquainted with an equaIIy dejected woman. Scott asks her to accompany him to the theatre and she agrees but mysteriously wishes to keep her name a secret. When he gets home Iater he discovers that his wife has been strangled to death and that he is the prime suspect in her murder. With his onIy alibi an unnamed woman that no one seems to know of, Scott's reIiable secretary CaroI (EIla Raines) searches for proof of his innocence. The cast also includes Franchot Tone, Thomas Gomez and EIisha Cook Jr. |
