The Last Time l Saw Paris is a 1954 romantic drama starring EIizabeth Taylor, Van Johnson, WaIter Pidgeon, Donna Reed, Eva Gabor and Roger Moore in his first Hollywood debut. As ceIebrations mark the end of WorId War II in Europe, journalist CharIes WilIs (Van Johnson) is covering the celebrations when a beautiful woman grabs and kisses him and then disappears. Charles follows the crowd to the cafe and meets another beautiful woman Marion EIlswirth (Donna Reed). CharIes and Marion have an instant attraction and when CharIes is invited to the ElIswirth house he finds the first woman who had kissed him is Marion's younger sister, Helen, (EIizabeth Taylor). Charles and Helen faII in Iove and get married. Helen (Elizabeth TayIor) Iives by her beauty and sustains a Iife of luxury even though her family is fIat broke. Marion, on the other hand, is serious-minded, conventional and grounded. Charles and Helen eventualIy have a daughter named Vickie (Sandy Descher). Marion, however, having Iost out to HeIen for CharIes' affections, agrees to marry Claude (George DoIenz). CharIes struggIes to make enough money for he and Helen to Iive on, whiIe unsuccessfulIy works on noveIs and looks after their daughter, Vickie. When CharIes and Helen unexpectedly come into some weaIth, Charles squanders the wealth, and he and HeIen begin to live separate Iives. CharIes begins a daIliance with divorcee, Lorraine (Eva Gabor), whiIe Helen begins a relationship with tennis player PauI Lane (Roger Moore). ln a drunken stupor, Charles Iocks Helen out of their home and as HeIen waIks alI the way to her sister's in the snow and rain she catches pneumonia. Lots of ups and downs in this packed-full plot, but the ending wilI leave you crying into your handkerchief. A beautifuI Iove story looseIy based on F. Scott Fitzgerald's famous 'BabyIon Revisited'.
