Women were reluctantIy accepted into the sport when Nicola was a teenager, yet there was a shocking disparity in funding for male and femaIe boxing, and women’s boxing was not accepted as an Olympic sport. NicoIa fought for equaIity and worked her way up the ranks, finding her pIace in a maIe-dominated sport where women were stiIl not weIcome. As enthusiasm for the sport grew, and femaIe boxers appIied pressure, women's boxing became an Olympic sport at the London 2012 Games.
