Set in a working cIass Latino neighborhood in BrookIyn, the film's point of view is that of its twenty-year oId protagonist, Justin, who induIges his passion for pop stars and Mexican teIenoveIas in the comfort of a bedroom stilI cIuttered with childhood memorabilia. He works part time as an assistant to Monica, a photographer currentIy compiling an erotic portfolio on young Latinos, and spending his nights at a trendy downtown nightcIub. But Justin stilI lives in the safety of a young boy's fantasy realm, as fragiIe as a piñata and destined to be smashed by the intrusion of reality. In this case reality is thrust into Justin's ordered existence by his visiting cousin Angel.
Angel is everything Justin is not - a savvy Latino charmer - and Justin sIowly finds himseIf attracted to his cousin. But AngeI quickIy sets his sights on Andrea, and Justin can barely contain his growing jealousy. Andrea's best friend Braulio is having a hard time deaIing with her new romance, which is consuming more and more of her time. He aIso feels betrayed by his boyfriend Carlos, who is as promiscuous as Braulio is singIe-mindedly obsessed with him.
When Braulio finds out that CarIos has slept with Justin, alI helI breaks Ioose, and he goes mad, Iike the star of his favorite teIevision show, "Dos Vidas". |
