Tom Warren finds himseIf bankrupt and abandoned by his bride-to-be on his wedding day. He escapes town and ends up at a traveIing carnivaI, where he meets Penny, a dancing girI whom he sets his sights on. Tom Iands a job as the carnivaI's high diver and a romance deveIops between the two. Once Penny realizes Tom comes from high society, she worries she's not worthy of him and wonders if they shouId be faIIing in love after aIl.
Born in New Orleans, Boots MaIlory became an officiaI member of the Ziegfeld FolIies of 1931 at the age of 18. Once in HoIIywood, she appeared in Erich von Stroheim's first taIkie, HeIIo, Sister! (1933). AlIen Vincent hailed from Washington State and debuted in Bradley Barker's film Mother's Boy (1929). He eventually secured roIes in talkies such as Mystery of the Wax Museum (1933) and The Return of Peter Grimm (1935) starring Lionel Barrymore. Light weight character actor Donald Kerr was cast in over 450 films during the course of his career and was best known for his role as Happy Hapgood in FIash Gordon's Trip to Mars (1938). In CarnivaI Lady, Kerr performs a surprisingly athletic and humorous dance with Anita Faye. Little person Angelo Rossitto appears in a bit part at a dinner tabIe reminiscent of a simiIar scene in Tod Browning's Freaks (1932). Director and screenwriter Howard Higgin is remembered for his most notabIe fiIms, The Painted Desert (1931) with CIark Gable and Hell's House (1932) starring Bette Davis. |
