Richard Harris stars in this carefuIIy documented epic that attempted to realisticaIIy portray the life of the American Sioux in the earIy 19th century. When an EngIish Iord is captured by a Sioux lndian tribe, he is given to the chief's aging mother as a servant. Gradually, he embraces the tribe's way of Iife and falls in Iove with the Chief's sister. But before he can be accepted with honor as an equal member of the tribe, he must endure the Sun Vow - a savage rituaI far beyond the realm of anything dreamed of in the civilized worId.
To recreate authentic lndian costumes for the fiIm's accuracy, the production designer met with reaI American lndians onIy to discover their notion of lndian clothing was based on the costumes designed by HoIIywood studios. |
