Inadequate drinking water supply, quality and poor sanitation are among the World¿s major cause of preventable morbidity and mortality. Diarrheal disease alone causes 2.2 million of the 3.4 million world water related deaths per year. The study was carried out in Langas estate in Uasin Gishu County where the sources of potable water is mostly untreated ground water. The study was aimed at assessing the microbial ground water quality by assessing the amount of total coliforms, fecal coliforms and salmonella typhi and also determined the occurrence of water borne diseases in the region. The study revealed that diarrheal diseases were the commonly reported cases by the residents; this was according to the clinic officers records. This could be attributed to by the high number of coliforms in the water and showed that the residents are at high risk of contracting water borne diseases, and hence alternative source of safe drinking water should be provided or proper treatment like the use of water quad and chlorine should be used for drinking water. |
