Various management practices in the political, economic and social areas of human endeavours were in existence in most of the former British colonies before the advent of the British colonialists. This is because most of these former colonies were managing themselves politically, economically and socially before the British colonialists claimed to have ¿discovered¿ them. For example the British colonialists replaced the Nigerian paternalistic employment relations system with their voluntarist employment relations system. This was done without any considerations for the differences in the sociocultural realties of Britain and Nigeria and the differences in the sociocultural realities of the various ethnic groups that were merged to become Nigeria. The British colonial masters also introduced the Parliamentary political democratic system to replace the Monarchical political system. The market economic system was also introduced all of these transfers were without due considerations to the differences in the sociocultural realities between the people ¿merged¿ or ¿forced¿ together to become one territory on one hand and the differences in socio-cultural realities of the colonial 'lords' |
